I can’t believe 2014 is coming to an end already. Where has the time gone?!?!

A few months ago, I started creating meal plans to keep my recipes organized for the website. It’s amazing the difference a little preparation makes.

I love doing these meal plans for 3 reasons:

  1. It eliminates the boredom of making the same old meals.
  2. It saves time on grocery shopping and #SundayPrepDay. I don’t waste as much time walking aimlessly through supermarket aisles looking for inspiration. And I don’t end up with a cart full of stuff that I don’t need or doesn’t create an actual meal. One of my biggest pet peeves is buying something that I later find I already had.
  3. It’s one less thing I have to think about on a daily basis. Taking out the guess work means I have more time for wine and Real Housewives of Wherever.

Meal planning takes time. But once you get into a rhythm, it’s pretty painless. Decreasing the chances that I end up with 3 bottles of ketchup in my cabinet was reason enough for me to stick with it. I started out with one week of dinners at a time. Now I plan breakfast, lunch and dinner for the entire month. I shared a few of the plans with my close friends. I got such great feedback. It seems these slackers came to rely on my little roadmap. A few of them stopped planning their own meals altogether. In fact, when I got so swamped in November that I didn’t create a December plan, a few of my friends cornered me to find out what happened. That was the motivation I needed to decide to share the wealth.

I hope you enjoy it. It’s an editable document so feel free to adjust it for your family’s taste. Many of the recipes are on my site. Those that aren’t will be posted soon, or you may already have your own version. I have breakfast and lunch included because it’s easier for me with the twins. But for those of you with older kids who make their own damn breakfast and lunch (can you tell I’m jealous?), just remove it or turn it into a healthy breakfast/lunch plan for yourself. Saturdays are always Takeout day. Feel free to add a meal or try out new restaurants in your area!

Let me know what you think!
